Advanced Acoustic Concepts, in collaboration with industry partners, participated in the U.S. Navy’s Advanced Naval Technology Exercise (ANTX) last month in Newport, Rhode Island. AAC participated in two exercises to highlight how AAC’s cutting edge technology can provide significant value to accomplishing undersea warfare. The first exercise demonstrated how AAC’s MobileC3 (Mc3) solution, currently fielded as the operational LCS Mission Package Mobile Control Station (MPMCS), provides the latest technology in a seamlessly integrated, open architecture, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) system providing flexible support of any UxV control interface. The second exercise, executed in collaboration with Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), demonstrated a single-sortie detect-to-engage capability for ‘Seabed Warfare in Denied Waters’. This capability was largely possible by the situational awareness provided by AAC’s SAMDIS imaging sonar and the engagement provided by AAC’s ANGLER underwater weapon system. Descriptions of the exercises can be found within the US Navy’s “Playbill” found at the ANTX Website: https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Home/Warfare-Centers/NUWC-Newport/What-We-Do/ANTX-2018/

Advanced Acoustic Concepts, a DRS/Thales joint venture based in the United States, has devised SAMDIS –– Synthetic Aperture and Mine Detection Imagery Sonar –– a system with multiple capabilities that can be rapidly deployed to provide the underwater “big picture.” SAMDIS has been in production for four years and is in operational service with several allied nations. The SAMDIS solution is already in use by several allies and, as Norman Polmar and I recently noted, Britain and France employ SADMIS in their joint mine countermeasures program. The system is software upgradable, which means that experience with the now deployed and operational systems can easily provide data for software upgrades of contemporary as well as future versions. Advanced Acoustic Concepts, a DRS/Thales joint venture based in the United States, has devised SAMDIS––Synthetic Aperture and Mine Detection Imagery Sonar––a system with multiple capabilities that can be rapidly deployed to provide the underwater “big picture.” Having also developed shipboard hull-mounted sonars, variable-depth sonars, and a fully automated drone launch and retrieval system, the firm has devised SAMDIS primarily to be deployed from unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), i.e., the so-called “ghost fleet.” Read the complete article at https://sldinfo.com/2017/08/new-underwater-effectiveness-the-samdis-solution/
